Secondary Maths Subject Leaders
BackSecondary Maths Subject Leaders Community
Subject leaders play a vital role in shaping departmental practice and driving improvements in student outcomes. This project provides an opportunity for leaders to deepen their understanding of effective teaching approaches, their wider leadership responsibilities, and their capacity to work with colleagues to transform secondary maths learning.
What Will You Learn?
Participants will:
- Lead with Vision: Establish a shared vision and coherent approach to teaching and learning in maths.
- Strengthen Curriculum: Design a connected curriculum that supports deep, sustainable understanding.
- Drive Departmental Growth: Foster collaboration, support colleagues, and lead meaningful pedagogical change.
- Enhance Professional Practice: Build expertise in delivering impactful professional development aligned with national priorities.
- Join a Professional Community: Collaborate with peers to build a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
What is involved?
Heads of department will:
- Attend four afternoon sessions over the course of the year, and a conference day towards the end of the academic year.
- Between sessions, participants will contribute to the community, complete school-based tasks, and share their reflections, through discussions with peers.
Who can take part?
The community is for secondary heads of department/subject leaders, and is open to all heads of department in schools - whether or not they've previously been involved with the Maths Hub.
